Driving through corn fields out in the American countryside, a group of friends get driven off the road when crows smash into their windshield. Looking for help, they walk through the corn to what seems to be an abandoned farmhouse.

As they go they see glimpses of what they think are people watching them, who then quickly move away. As night falls, they realise that something supernatural and evil is waiting to draw them into its game. Quite a short film at just 80 minutes, the filmmakers have a fairly original story which moves along at a great pace. While you get an idea of what is happening fairly early on, it's not all explained until the film is wrapping up and it's all brought together particularly well.

Much of the action takes place within the cornfield which adds a claustrophobic feel to these scenes, and when characters emerge there is a palpable sense of relief - all quite cleverly executed. The Blu-ray version is definitely the way to go - the video presentation is extraordinarily clear with lots of bright colours in the day scenes and even the scenes shot at night leave you with little trouble seeing what is going on in the shadows. The audio is a particularly effective dts-HD MA 5.

It looked like something cheap and engaging to pass 90 minutes with, and turned out to be a very tense, scary movie. It has both gore and atmosphere, which is rare for Western horror movies in the 21st Century. Clearly a remake of the straight-to-video 80's masterpiece, "Scarecrows", but not a direct copy.
